2010 Newsmakers Clash: Wikileaks Takes Down the US Government

Engaged in a lengthy head-to-head battle, Wikileaks has emerged victorious over the US Government in what will go down as one of the most lopsided defeats in the history of competition. As the headlining bout in the 2010 Newsmakers Clash, presented by Empire Avenue and Battle Avenue, the match-up pitted @wikileaks against @usagov in a battle for information freedom, with the winner determined by the masses of Empire Avenue users. By a margin of 15,158  shares sold to just 1,018, the Julian Assange-led Wikileaks walked away with the title of People's Choice Champion.

In the undercard, an internet-driven technology battle between @Google and @Facebook saw the search giant claim victory. Despite boasting more than 500 million users, Facebook couldn't muster up the support it needed to topple the elder statesman of Silicon Valley, losing by a margin of 13,884 shares sold to 5,137.

And in the final battle of 2010 newsmakers, the mighty Ash Cloud once again defeated poor ol' Heathrow Airport. It was the second time this year that the London air-travel hub fell prey to the awesome destructive power of lava and ash, with @TheAshCloud claiming 6,740 shares sold to @HeathrowAirport's 3,565.
